Warn VR EVO Winch - 10,000 lbs / 12,000 lbs

When you're buried axle-deep in mud on a trail an hour from the nearest cell signal, you need a winch that pulls. Not one that overheats on the first hard pull, not one that lets water into the motor after a creek crossing. The Warn VR EVO is built for exactly that situation. You get 10,000 lbs on the 10-S or 12,000 lbs on the 12-S, a series-wound motor that doesn't quit under load, and IP68 waterproofing that actually means something. This is Warn's workhorse - no frills, no nonsense, real recovery capability for trucks and rigs that see real dirt.

10-S vs 12-S: Which One You Need

The math here is straightforward: your winch should pull at least 1.5x your vehicle's gross weight. Running a stock half-ton around 6,000 lbs? The 10-S handles it. Got a 3/4-ton or 1-ton loaded with bumpers, armor, a full-size spare, and 200 lbs of gear pushing you past 7,500 lbs? Get the 12-S and don't look back. That extra 2,000 lbs of capacity is also your margin when you're stuck nose-down in a ravine and you're pulling uphill through thick mud - both of which multiply the effective load on your winch fast. When in doubt, size up.

Series-Wound Motor: Why It Matters on a Hard Pull

A lot of winches use permanent magnet motors. They're cheap and they work fine in light-duty situations. But permanent magnet motors lose torque as they heat up, and they slow down under heavy load. The VR EVO runs a series-wound motor, which works the opposite way - it makes more torque as load increases, so it keeps pulling hard when you're actually stuck. Pair that with a 3-stage planetary gear train at 218:1 reduction and this winch moves 10,000 lbs at 5.2 feet per minute at full rated load. It also draws 358 amps max, which is on the lower end for a 10,000 lb winch - that matters because every amp you pull from your electrical system is an amp you're not putting back into your battery.

IP68 Waterproofing - Fully Submerged, Still Works

IP68 isn't just "splash resistant" or "water resistant." It's the highest standard rating for dust and water ingress - fully sealed against continuous submersion. If you're crossing water obstacles or yanking yourself out of a flooded wash, you don't have to baby it. Water and mud stay out of the motor and gearbox. That's huge for long-term reliability because even a small amount of moisture in a motor kills it slowly from the inside. The VR EVO is built to get wet and keep working.

Albright Contactor and Relocatable Control Pack

The Albright contactor is the heavy-duty solenoid that switches power to the motor. Warn didn't cut corners here - Albright contactors are used in industrial equipment for a reason. They handle high amp loads without arcing and failing the way cheap contactors do. The control pack itself can be relocated off the winch body, so if you're building a low-profile bumper setup or you want the electronics somewhere more protected, you've got that flexibility. Most builders appreciate this when they're tight on space behind a winch plate.

Wired and Wireless Remote - Use Both, Don't Ditch Either

You get a corded remote with an 11.5-foot lead and a wireless remote. The wireless is great for positioning yourself to watch your line angle without being glued to the bumper - and that's genuinely useful when you're trying to avoid a snatch point failure. But keep the wired remote rigged and accessible. Wireless remotes lose signal in thick terrain, batteries die, and when you're stressed in a bad situation you don't want to be troubleshooting electronics. The cord is your guarantee.

A Few Things to Set Up Right

Don't run this winch without a circuit breaker or inline fuse between the winch and your battery. If the motor stalls or the wiring shorts, you need to cut power before you melt cables or start a fire. The VR EVO ships with synthetic rope from the factory - lighter than steel cable and safer if it parts under load (no dangerous snap-back). Always drape a damper or heavy blanket over the line mid-span when you're winching. If the line does fail, the damper absorbs the energy. It's a habit worth building from day one. Winch mount sold separately - make sure your bumper is rated and your mount pattern matches the 10-inch x 4.5-inch bolt pattern.

  • IP68-rated waterproof housing
  • Albright contactor
  • Relocatable control pack
  • Cast-aluminum tie-plate
  • Corded remote (11.5 ft. / 3.5m lead)
  • Wireless remote
  • Mounting hardware

Available Versions

  • VR EVO 10-S (WAR-103253): 10,000 lb capacity - half-ton and 3/4-ton trucks
  • VR EVO 12-S (WAR-103255): 12,000 lb capacity - 3/4-ton and 1-ton trucks, heavily built rigs

The Warn VR EVO mounts to any bumper or winch plate with a standard 10-inch x 4.5-inch, 4-bolt mounting pattern. Compatible with most aftermarket and OEM winch-ready bumpers across a wide range of trucks and SUVs. Verify your bumper's winch plate rating matches the winch capacity you're running - a 10,000 lb winch on an undersized mount is a liability. Winch mount sold separately.

Structured Fitment: Toyota, Lexus (and other makes with compatible 10 in. x 4.5 in. winch mount patterns). Always confirm your specific bumper's mounting specs before ordering.
