Need a winch that actually works when you're stuck? The Warn VR EVO winch pulls 10,000 pounds (10-S) or 12,000 pounds (12-S) and it's built to handle serious off-road use. It's got a series-wound motor with a planetary gear train that pulls faster under load than most standard-duty winches, and it draws less current so you're not killing your battery. The winch is IP68-rated waterproof, which means it's sealed against water and mud. If you're running a 3/4-ton or 1-ton truck and you need a winch that works when you're buried, this is what you need.
The VR EVO comes in two versions: 10-S pulls 10,000 pounds, 12-S pulls 12,000 pounds. Pick based on your truck's weight. A good rule is your winch should pull at least 1.5 times your vehicle's gross weight. If you've got a stock 1/2-ton truck that weighs around 6,000 pounds, the 10-S works. If you've got a 3/4-ton or 1-ton truck that weighs 7,500+ pounds, or if you're running heavy armor and gear, get the 12-S. More capacity means you've got margin when you're stuck in deep mud or pulling uphill.
The VR EVO uses a series-wound motor with a planetary gear train. Series-wound motors make more torque under load than permanent magnet motors, which means the winch pulls faster when it's actually working hard. The planetary gear train multiplies the motor's torque and it's more durable than worm-drive gear systems. The winch also draws less current than comparable winches, so you're not draining your battery as fast when you're winching.
The winch is IP68-rated, which means it's fully sealed against water and dust. You can submerge it and it'll still work. If you're crossing water or you're winching in deep mud, the IP68 rating means water's not getting into the motor or the gearbox. That's huge for reliability because water kills winches fast.
The VR EVO uses an Albright contactor, which is what controls the power to the winch motor. Albright contactors are way more reliable than cheap contactors that arc and fail. The control pack (the box with the contactor and wiring) can be relocated, so if you need a low-profile install or you want to mount the control pack somewhere protected, you can move it.
The winch comes with a wired remote with an 11.5-foot cable and a wireless remote. The wired remote works when you're close to the winch. The wireless remote works from farther away, which is useful when you need to see your line angle or you're spotting yourself. Always keep the wired remote as a backup because wireless remotes fail or lose signal.
Note: You'll need a winch mount that fits your truck's bumper. Winch mounts are sold separately. Don't run your winch without a circuit breaker or fuse inline between the winch and your battery. If the winch shorts out or stalls, you need a way to cut power before it melts your wiring. Synthetic rope's lighter and safer than steel cable, but it's sold separately if you want to swap the factory cable. Always use a damper or blanket on your winch line when you're pulling. If the line breaks, the damper absorbs energy and keeps the line from whipping back.
